Can I go to the bathroom?

 Bienvenidos al Planeta de las Estrellas! 

Este es el último post de mi blog para la asignatura de Procesos y Contextos educativos y tengo que agradeceros a todos los que me habéis seguido, leído y apoyado durante este trayecto. Estoy segura de que a estas alturas, habéis empezado a brillar cada vez con más fuerza hasta convertiros en verdaderas estrellas casi como el sol. 

Dado que es mi último post, he decidido que me merecía hablar de algo que me gusta, que me encanta, de lo que he decidido hacer, como podéis ver, mi vida. Y no, no es la educación (aunque también me guste un montón), sino el inglés. 

Por ello, en este último post voy a mezclar mis dos pasiones: el inglés y contar mi vida, y voy a hablaros de mi carrera: Estudios Ingleses. 

Elegí esta carrera, tras hacer Bachillerato de Ciencias, porque sentía que era lo que siempre me había gustado y siempre se me había dado bien. Mis padres habían insistido mucho en nuestro estudio de los idiomas desde muy pequeños, por lo que llevo prácticamente toda mi vida estudiando inglés de manera escolar y extraescolar. He llegado a pasar más tiempo en clases de inglés que en mi propia casa. 

Así que, aunque me hice la remolona muchos años, creo que mi camino siempre estuvo encaminado hacia el idioma y por fin decidí ir a ello en la universidad. 

Mucha gente se mete a Estudios Ingleses sin saber exactamente lo que es. No te metes a esta carrera para hacer el present simple y el vocabulario de viajes como cuando estabas en la ESO. Más bien para hacer un estudio de la lengua, la cultura y la literatura inglesa y estadounidense. 

Así, se crean varias ramas dentro del inglés: las más aburridas, que son las de literatura (es broma) y la más chula de todas que es la de lengua y lingüística (mi favorita). Muchas veces he dicho que para mí la lingüística se parece como a las matemáticas. A mí me han tachado de loca, que eso no tenía nada que ver, pero por alguna razón encuentro una similitud. 

Si ahora me preguntaran que es la lingüística no sabría muy bien como explicarlo de forma que se entendiera bien y pudiendo explicar lo CHULÍSIMA que es. Es básicamente el estudio de la lengua, de cómo se forman las oraciones y por qué en ese orden y con esas características. Lo peor de esto es que solo conozco la punta del iceberg de este ámbito. 

Hay otra rama de la lingüística que en general suele ser la más odiada por los estudiantes del grado, pero que a mí me ENCANTA: la fonética. Cualquiera que sepa un poco de inglés sabrá que la fonética inglesa es bastante complica, pues tiene muchos sonidos distintos, y las letras no suelen coincidir con cómo se pronuncia determinada palabra. Pero creo que es precisamente lo que a mí me encanta, el hecho de que tenga una fonología tan rica, que cómo pronunciamos una frase o una palabra afecta al significado de ésta. Fascinante. 

En resumen, para meterte a esta carrera tienes que ser consciente de que te tiene que gustar la lengua inglesa en sí. No que te guste hablar en inglés o cosas de esas, sino que realmente te gusten las propiedades de esta lengua como tal, estudiar la historia de los países anglosajones y la literatura que surge de ellos que es muy bonita. 

Yo, como estudiante de inglés, siempre voy a recomendar esta carrera pues me parece super chula y desconocida. Sin embargo, os animo a que estudiéis siempre lo que os guste y os apasione tanto como el inglés a mí.

Welcome to the Planet of the Stars! 

This is the last post of my blog for the Educational Processes and Contexts course and I have to thank all of you who have followed, read and supported me during this journey. I am sure that by now, you have started to shine brighter and brighter until you have become true stars almost like the sun. 

Since this is my last post, I decided that I deserved to talk about something that I love, that I love, that I have decided to make, as you can see, my life. And no, it's not education (although I also love it a lot), but English. 

So, in this last post I am going to mix my two passions: English and telling my life story, and I am going to tell you about my career: English Studies. 

I chose this career, after doing a Bachelor of Science, because I felt that it was what I had always liked and I had always been good at. My parents had insisted a lot on our study of languages from a very young age, so I have been studying English practically all my life, both in and out of school. I have even spent more time in English classes than in my own home. 

So, even though I played hard to get for many years, I think my path was always towards language and I finally decided to go for it in college. 

I chose this career, after doing a Bachelor of Science, because I felt that it was what I had always liked and had always been good at. I have even spent more time in English classes than in my own home. 

So, even though I played hard to get for many years, I think my path was always towards language and I finally decided to go for it in college. 

A lot of people go into English Studies without knowing exactly what it is. You don't get into this major to do the simple present and travel vocabulary like you did when you were in ESO. Rather to do a study of English and American language, culture and literature. 

Thus, several branches are created within English: the most boring, which are those of literature (just kidding) and the coolest of all which is the language and linguistics (my favorite). I have often said that for me linguistics is like mathematics. I have been called crazy, that it has nothing to do with mathematics, but for some reason I find a similarity. 

If I were asked now what linguistics is, I would not know very well how to explain it in a way that would be well understood and could explain how COOL it is. It is basically the study of language, how sentences are formed and why in that order and with those characteristics. The worst thing about this is that I only know the tip of the iceberg of this field. 

There is another branch of linguistics that is generally the most hated by undergraduate students, but that I LOVE: phonetics. Anyone who knows a little English will know that English phonetics is quite complicated, as it has many different sounds, and the letters don't usually match how a certain word is pronounced. But I think that's precisely what I love about it, the fact that it has such a rich phonology, that how we pronounce a sentence or a word affects the meaning of it. Fascinating. 

In short, to get into this career you have to be aware that you have to like the English language itself. Not that you like to speak English or things like that, but that you really like the properties of this language as such, study the history of the Anglo-Saxon countries and the literature that comes out of them which is very beautiful. 

I, as a student of English, will always recommend this career because I find it super cool and unknown. However, I encourage you to always study what you like and are as passionate about as I am about English.
